In this program we’ll be doing mindful embroidery by making slow-stitched meditation scrolls. Meditation scrolls are small, hand-stitched fabric strips wrapped around wooden or plastic spools, designed as a slow stitching practice that blends creativity with mindfulness. This craft emphasizes the therapeutic process of stitching over a finished product, allowing you to embrace imperfections and find calm through repetitive, soothing hand movements without the pressure of having to follow a complex pattern. All supplies to make the scrolls will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring any fabric scraps, buttons, trims, etc. that have personal significance to them if they wish to incorporate that into their scroll. No embroidery or sewing experience is required; staff will be on hand to assist anyone who is new to hand stitching/embroidery.
The Walters Branch Library is located in southeast Wichita near the WSU Tech South campus. The library is named for Dr. Ronald W. Walters (1938-2010), an author, speaker, and scholar of African American politics who organized the 1958 Dockum drug store sit-in.
