For this quarter’s selection, we will be reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. This classic 1969 autobiography describes the early years of the revered American writer and poet Maya Angelou. The first in a seven-volume series, it is a coming-of-age story that illustrates how strength of character and a love of literature can help overcome racism and trauma. Content warning: this novel contains graphic depictions of child sexual abuse, racial slurs and sexual assault. While supplies last, books will be available for check out at the Advanced Learning Library starting January 13, 2025. For more information on how to check out a reserved copy, call 316-261-8500.
