Art can be a powerful tool for self-expression and self-discovery. When we create art as a tool for self-care, we have the opportunity to explore our thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental space. This month we will explore the ancient artform of the Mandala as a way of reducing stress, expressing emotions and increasing self-awareness. Mandala, which is Sanskrit for “sacred circle” is a circular pattern traditionally filled with geometric shapes starting from the center and working outward. Although it is most often associated with Eastern religious traditions, the practice of making mandalas has been used across numerous faiths and cultures as a meditative activity. Mandala coloring sheets and drawing paper (for those wanting to draw their own mandala by hand) will be provided along with basic supplies like colored pencils, pens and markers. Participants are welcome to bring additional drawing supplies if they prefer. No drawing skills or experience is required.
