Local Author Day Expo

Local Author Day is back for another year! Meet talented local writers, browse and buy books for adults and kids, and support our local literary community while discovering your next great read.

Join us for a fun-filled afternoon celebrating our local author community! Come meet talented local writers and explore books across genres, including mystery, romance, science fiction, fantasy, nonfiction, memoir, poetry, and children’s literature. Chat with authors about their work and inspiration, browse books for adults and kids, and get the opportunity to purchase signed copies directly from the authors. Whether you're an avid reader, an aspiring writer, or wanting to offer support for our local writing community, Local Author Day offers something for everyone!

Author Applications

Due to growing interest and limited event space, participation is now determined through an application process. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance.
While all authors are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to authors who reside within 20 miles of Wichita city limits.

Applications will be evaluated based on several factors, including:

• The variety of genres represented  
• If the applicant has published a book within the last 3-5 years 
• If the applicant has an active social media presence used for professional purposes 
• If the applicant has a professional, up-to-date website 
• The amount of positive book reviews the applicant's book(s) have received 
• If, and to what extent, the applicant uses generative-AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, etc.) to produce their books, particularly in areas related to creative output such as cover design, wording, story or character ideas).

Application Deadline: Friday, July 10th at 10:00 p.m. Central
Applicants will be notified of their acceptance status via email by 8:00 p.m. Central, Wednesday, July 15th. Authors who have not received a response by that date should contact the library.
