Join us for a deep dive into a popular book genre, including essential themes, where to start, authors to know, hot and upcoming titles, recommended resources and more!
Horror is a genre of speculative fiction designed to scare, unsettle, or disgust its audience by creating an atmosphere of dread, fear, and repulsion. It taps into universal anxieties such as death, the unknown, and loss of control, often reflecting broader cultural anxieties through supernatural or psychological threats. The genre has ancient roots in folklore and religious traditions but has evolved to include various subgenres such as gothic horror, cosmic horror, psychological horror, and more. In this program, we’ll talk about the history of this genre and its pioneering authors, common characteristics of the genre, new and upcoming book releases, as well as provide some recommended books for those new to the genre or looking for something different for your “spooky season” reading!
