Tuesday Topics: Misinformation in the Age of AI

Join the League of Women Voters-Wichita Metro and Enrichment Librarian Jenny Durham for a discussion about the challenges that generative-AI technologies pose to identifying misinformation.

The emergence of generative-AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude, and more in recent years has transformed how people seek, interpret, and use information online. Although this has made information easier (and faster) to access, the rapid adoption of a relatively new technology has also led to a rapid rise in the spread of misinformation. In this program, The League of Women Voters-Wichita Metro will be joined by Enrichment Librarian Jenny Durham, who will talk about generative AI and how it has impacted the way people seek out information, how they interpret it and use that information, and how the rapid adoption of these tools by major corporations and news organizations has made identifying misinformation more challenging. She will also share tips on how to spot misinformation as well as how to utilize generative AI tools responsibly when using it for research and information seeking by developing a fundamental understanding of its strengths and limitations.
