Jennifer Durham, Adult Enrichment Librarian, will present a talk on misinformation in the age of social media and share tips on how to engage responsibly with information online.
As the amount of information available online intensifies, knowing how to engage in media critically and responsibly, particularly social media, is more important than ever. Jennifer Durham, Adult Enrichment Librarian at the Wichita Public Library, will present about how the current social media landscape contributes to the spread of misinformation, how tools like AI have made it even harder to discern fact from fiction, and why building media literacy skills to slow the spread of misinformation is needed to make informed decisions - especially within a context of elections and political discourse where being able to distinguish between facts and propaganda is essential for civic engagement and democracy.
