The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was founded in 1890. It is dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Membership is open to women who can prove direct lineal descent from an ancestor who contributed to the cause of American independence during the Revolutionary War. The DAR has chapters across the United States. They are known for their maintenance of genealogical records, preservation of historic sites and documents, honoring veterans, and supporting schools and scholars.
