Join us for a special summer edition of Art for Self-Care to explore an ancient craft that can also be a mindful, creative practice. Coinciding with this year's Summer Reading Program theme, "Unearth a Story," Enrichment Librarian Jenny Durham will lead a 2-hour workshop on the ancient craft of making yarn with a simple drop spindle using wool fiber. Jenny will also talk about the history of hand spindles, the different kinds of hand spindles there are, how to make your own drop spindle using a dowel rod and a wooden disc, and how the craft of spindling has impacted different cultural groups, even up to the present day. No previous spinning experience is required and all supplies will be provided.
