For this quarter’s selection, we will be reading Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. This historical fiction novel traces the lineage of two half-sisters in 18th- Century Ghana whose lives take two very different paths after one sister is married to a wealthy British slave trader while the other is sold into slavery and shipped to the American colonies. The story follows seven-generations of the sisters’ descendants and how their lives are consequently shaped by colonialism and the trans-Atlantic slave trade both in Ghana and in the Americas. While supplies last, books will be available for check out at the Advanced Learning Library starting January 12, 2026. For more information on how to check out a reserved copy, call 316-261-8500.
