Enrichment Librarian Jenny will share tips on fact-checking health information online and how to identify health misinformation. She will be joined by WSU Professor Barbara Smith for an audience Q&A.
With all the digital information available at our fingertips, it’s easy to find inaccurate advice about your health. As technology continues to advance, so does the amount of medical misinformation people are exposed to, which can have unintended, if not lethal, consequences. Enrichment Librarian Jenny will share some tips on how to identify medical misinformation online, how to fact check information shared online, as well as provide recommendations for reliable resources to use when researching medical information online. Joining her is Professor Barbara Smith, from WSU's Department of Physical Therapy to answer questions about trending health topics online and clarify whether these claims are backed up by science or not. Attendees are encouraged to think on possible health-related questions or claims they've heard online and bring those questions to the program.
