Erected in 1974 where the Big and Little Arkansas Rivers meet, the "Keeper of the Plains" is the triumphant outcome of a collaboration between Kiowa-Comanche artist and designer Blackbear Bosin, the Kansas Gas & Electric Co., and the Wichita community itself. Yet the Keeper is also a triumph of iconic design and its influence continues to grow, finding new expressions in each generation.
