Join the League of Women Voters for a panel discussion about book bans, what they are, how they work, who is behind these attempts and how they impact our community.
In 2026, Banned Books Week will take place October 4-10. Banned Books Week launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of book challenges in libraries, schools, and bookstores. In honor of Banned Books Week, The Wichita Public Library and The League of Women Voters - Wichita Metro will present a special Tuesday Topics panel discussion about banned books to address some of the common misconceptions around the issue and what is actually happening when people talk about book bans. We will be joined by panelists from a range of backgrounds including public and academic libraries, book stores, and school and library boards. The panel discussion will be moderated by Wichita Public Library Director, Jaime Nix.
