Watch a movie, make art or do both!
Are you an artist or creative who enjoys having a movie on while you work? Join us at the library for Art-Flix, where you can collaborate with fellow artists, watch an inspiring film, and engage with your community.
For July’s theme: DIY & Zines, we’re celebrating the art of self-publishing! We’ll have a zine-making station set up, complete with supplies and coaches to help you create your own mini zine. Whether you’re a seasoned zinester or a total beginner, this is your chance to explore the world of DIY publishing.
We'll provide materials, but feel free to bring your own. As always, we just ask that you're mindful of your mess and the space.
Films:
$100 & a T-Shirt: A Documentary About Zines in the Northwest (2004) – A deep dive into the zine culture of the Pacific Northwest, featuring interviews with creators and a look at the power of self-publishing.
The Book Makers (2020) – A documentary celebrating the art and craft of bookmaking, from small independent presses to cutting-edge book designers.
Art-Flix is part of the Third Place on Second Street program series.
About The Third Place on Second Street
A "third place" is a vital social space where people can gather and connect outside of home and work. These spaces foster casual interactions, build relationships, exchange ideas, and create a sense of belonging.
The Wichita Public Library invites you to make the library your third place with The Third Place on Second Street, an engaging program series designed to bring people together. Each event features a unique theme and activity?ranging from board games and movies to live music and more?offering opportunities to relax, have fun, and connect with others in the community.
Each TPOSS event also includes a curated selection of library materials related to the theme, available for checkout.
Come discover how the library can be your third place!
